How to Repair Your Sunglasses’ Broken Nose Pads?
The worth of our glasses’ tiny nose pads is not realized until they are gone. Missing nose pads are absolutely the worst as those metal frames that protrude from your metal framed sunglasses beneath the nose pads will scratch your skin and make your glass wobbly. If you have invested quite a bit on your sunglasses, then it is nonsensical to buy a whole new pair of sunglasses just because they need a tiny repair. Nose pads are one of the things in a sunglass that needs to be repaired or replaced the most.
Choosing the Right Shape and Size
Most branded sunglasses will often have branded nose pads bearing the company’s logo. In that case, you will have to buy from the brand shop if you want the original one. However, if you want a cheap and quick sunglass repair, you can buy nose pads from online shops or eyeglass repair shops. It is important for you to find a nose pad that matches the other one in shape as well as in size because uneven nose pads can result in misaligned frames and even cause discomfort and pain.
There are four things that you should consider before buying nose pads:
Size: The size of nose pads is usually measured in millimeters from top to bottom. So, take a ruler marked with millimeters and measure from the top. Most nose pad size ranges from 6 to 24 millimeters.
Shape: Nose pads come in a variety of shapes such as rectangle, circles, D-shaped, or teardrop shaped. Choose the correct shape according to your other nose pad.
Material: Nose pads also come in a lot of different materials such as glass, plastic, rubber, ceramic, and silicone. Most new sunglasses are being given silicone pads as they are very comfortable compared to the others
Types: There are three usual kinds of nose pads, Screw-in, Push-in, and Adhesive.
The Replacement of Nose Pads
After you have bought the right nose pad, it is time for replacing the old one with this. Remove the damaged nose pad that you wish to replace. Face the pads upwards and locate the screw on the nose pad. Place the screwdriver on the groove and then rotate the screwdriver to your left until the screw is loose enough and then pull it out. You can reuse that screw if you wish to.
Now, place the new nose pad on the mount and gently line up the screw in its hole. You can do this with a pair of tweezers or even a magnet instead of fingers for more convenience. Insert the screw in the hole and then gently tighten it with the help of a screwdriver.
If you want a sunglass repair for a push-in or adhesive nose pad, it is quite easy to do so. Just snap off the old nose pads with your finger or a butter knife and snap on the new ones. Adhesive nose pads are usually used for sunglasses which does not have one. These are great if you want some extra comfort. Just peel off the paper from the back and then stick the adhesive part of the nose pad where your nose touches the sunglasses.
